Main Character:

I want the main character to based of the stick figure style.

They will have Japanese John Wick/ agent aesthetic.

They will have a Katana as a main weapon.

Target:

The target is never seen fully by the viewer, the viewer sees a blur in mirrors, and it is hidden in the shadows on the other side of lava pit.

On second thoughts I will have a clone of the main character just will different color clothing.

These are my concepts I have decided on the last concept I may make some adaptions over time.

My goal is to keep the model simple and low ish polly count.

For the head it is just one mesh with a different material for the eye section.

For the the rig I followed a basic tutorial on Youtube and this is my first time using Blender.

pinned vertex group- for the kilt I was going to have the two sides separated but it would bug out so I just used an alpha for the two sides.

This is an bug that I cannot resolve the cape decides to wrap around the charactor or goes through his legs.

For my project my base idea is that my character will be chasing an unknown figure through small rooms that are setup around different environments.

I want the figure that is being chased to be obscured from the viewer and main character.

I want each room to have the parameter 5m²

Room 1: Mirror room.

I want it resemble the first part of this shot.

This has the similar idea of not knowing where your target is.

I want to have the chaser stumbling and knocking over some of the mirrors as They try to find their way.

Room 2: small jungle/ Japanese temple. bridges etc

I will hide the target behind bushes etc.

Mine wont a scale anywhere near the size of the image.
I like the color pallet although I dont like the hard lines.
I want To have a mixture of low polly objects for main/ larger objects and higher maybe for plants and equipment.

I really like the simplisity of this work, although I think the lighting needs more work.

Room 3: Lava pit.

I have now decided apon just focusing on the Japanese aspect of my plan.

This is a rough storyboard of what I want to happen in my animation.

This is my new story that I will work with, With the amount of work I will need to do to create the first idea I have cut it down to one Environment.

Story overview:

My story is based in a Japanese environment with the main character being a Samurai. It shows the internal anger issues that the Samurai must face and indentify.

Shot Break down:

Shot 1: The scene starts out with the camera following the stream towards the house, in which we can see the main charactor trainning.

Shot 2: The second shot will have a close up of the main character hacking and slashing at the trainning dummy, showing aggression.

Shot 3: the third shot will have the character looking into the sky as a thunder storm rolls over. The scene becomes a near pitch black.

Shot 4: A shaft of lighting hits on the other side of the bridge, revealing the dark side of the main character only when the shafts hit.

I want to use a toon shader similar to this one so it resembles something similar to an animae.

This was fairly simple to create as I used the mirror modifier within blender. My goal is to keep my assets simplistic. For the windows and the side walls I used a emission material.

Again this archway was simple to create, I tried to keep all my models low polly.

I dont really like the design of this bridge, If I was to recreate it I would use circular colums instead of square ones.

As you can see In this image I have started the sculpting of the terrain and have begain process of the layout. I have used a basic sand displacement map that I have found on google to break it up. For the water I have applied a basic glass shader.

This is my test of the particle system using my basic “bush” mesh, I added a randomized texture to them so not everyone has the same color.

For laying out the bamboo I used the Particle system which I played around with the randomization of placement and orientation. I used a custom node group and the paint tool to place the bamboo where I wanted it, although I got issues with it spawning them outside my painted regions.

For the magical blossum tree I used the paricle system with some star shaped objects to resemeble leafs, I gave the leafs a limited life and then applied a glowing pink material.

Creating The trunk and branches for this tree was pretty straight forward. For the shrubary I used a volume material setup and used multiple meshs to make it less uniform, I also used a cloud displacement to break it up further.

Creating the bamboo I first created the stem, from there I created the twigs and applied a plain which I then painted an alpha in photoshop then I applied a random texture. From there I assigned a custom node group to the top of the stem, then I applied a particle system to give random placement to the twigs and to make every bamboo shoot variation.

For the mountain I painted a Matte painting in photoshop aswell. I started by painting a rough sketch of the mountain, I then proceeded to paint the alpha to give the clean cutout. One thing I had to play around with for a bit is the placement of the plain in comparison to the camera.

This is my much needed refresh of bushs also the adition of grass to clear up some dead space. I first made the grass using a plain then extruding, for the bushes I just duplicated the mesh and rotated. For both I used the particle system again.

I first started out with clouds by using a mesh and volumetrics but I couldnt create the look I liked. But I found a community made node for creating Ghibili animae clouds.

I have also made a much needed redesign of the water. For the material setup I used a noise texture for the displacement normal and the alpha to try and replicate the look of water.I also keyed the movement of the plane to make the water look like its moving.

For the lighting setup I am using a sun light as the main source to give a nice warm tinge and to cast some shadows. I also have the main world lighting as a nice mustard color.

For the night scene I have added a night hdri that I found on hdri haven.I also removed the sun and clouds.

This is an issue that I have come across while rendering my night scene where some odd mesh is showing in my scene while rendering.

I have resolved the issue, it turns out its just my characters kilt bugged out while baking.

This is my final look for my day scenes. I really like the warm red glow that the red sun gives.
