Early morning birds sing their songs and watch dogs being walked below their high branches. This park is home to all sorts of animals but one particular animal likes to come and sit on the same park bench every Tuesday. Harry Simpson loves sitting on this park bench every week, this is so he can get away from his boring chair, and the boring flickering box in front of him.
One day, just as harry’s bad mood is slowly floating away in the soft outside breeze, a man a little older than him sits down next to him.
“ Sally said I would find you here,” says the new arrival towards Harry.
“ Yeah, I need to pretend I’m sitting somewhere else, so she stops sending the whole town here,” replies Harry as he slowly turns his head to look at the man next to him.
“ Look, those two boys over there are rolling down that same hill we used to roll down. The good old days, hey Harry?” Putting his hand on Harry’s shoulder after finishing his sentence. Harry slowly takes the hand off his shoulder and says
“ Yep, they sure were. How times have changed, hey David?”
“ So you do remember my name then.”
“You’ve made it very hard for us to forget it,” says Harry while looking David straight in the eyes.
“Look mate I’m sorry for everything” David tries to maintain eye contact but crumbles after the last word.
“ I don’t want to hear it mate, You weren’t here when we needed you the most, it’s that simple. How long are you here for this time anyway?”
“I’m here to stay this time, I’m living with an old workmate at the moment but I’m going to find a proper place soon.” David rubs his hands together like he is unveiling a masterplan.
“I really want to believe you this time. But how many times have you tried to clean up your life and fuck it all up within a couple weeks?”
“This time is different, I don’t drink anymore, I have even given up the smokes.”
“Yeah, good for you. Why are you here? Sally should have told you that I like to sit here by myself.”
“Yeah she did, but I didn’t think you would mind. We are brothers after all”
“Brothers? We haven’t been brothers since almost 20 years ago and you know that. Don’t come here pretending you give a shit now.” Harry stands up and acts like he is going to walk away but is really just waiting for David to reply.
“I knew you would still be angry at me, even after all these years” Harry turns around, points at David and yells
“I am going to be angry with you until the end of time, we had a deal and you broke it. Twice. You broke it fucking twice. Didn’t hear a word from you until right now when there’s no alcohol swimming through your veins.” David stands up and turns to walk away mumbling under his breath
“ I don’t need this.” Harry hears him say it and while David is walking away, Harry yells
“Yeah go on, I don’t need you either. I don’t need you!”
