So I have found a logo that I think could be improved as it doesn’t convey what service the company offers. Find the image attached below (sorry the quality of the image isn’t very good). Taihape Veterinary Services claims to be affordable, high quality care for livestock (as they are in a rural community), working dogs and pets. Their motto is “Enough veterinary excellence to fill your gumboots”.
Taihape Veterinary Services’ logo isn’t very well designed as it has a plain font with no relation to animals at all. The logo hasn’t had very much thought into it as the first thing you think of when thinking of veterinary services is some sort of animal. The text hasn’t been kerned to make it more legible to the possible customer. The logo looks dated and generic, I think the logo could be more eye catching to draw the customer in and make the company seem more professional.
I have attached a few logos which I think I could pull some ideas from. Their logo shows what they specialise in (animal care). The logos also make the company seem more approachable and reliable.
I have really enjoyed researching different logos as it has shown me some really good and some not so good logos. It has given me a clear vision of what type of logos work and in what scenario.
Examples: for a very natural, calm type of company (gardening, plant based) you will want to have a simple logo with gentle colours (grey, neutral, pastels) and for a very child oriented company (daycares, playgroups), you will want to be using bright colours (yellow, light blue, orange) as they are happy, playful, energetic colours.
I will keep updating my finds and attach any other images I like and can get some inspiration from. In my next post I will attach some thumbnails and will hopefully be well on the way to an improved logo.
