WRDSMTH ( Comparative research ).

WRDSMTH with a 15’ piece in Downtown Los Angeles.

Similar to Banksy, WRDSMTH is a street artist located in Los-Angeles who is known for iconic images of vintage typewriters featuring different sheets of inspirational text. Before WRDSMTH decided to pursue as a street artist he was a writer who then became a published author in 2012, after tired of sitting in front of a computer for long periods of time he decided to get creative with his writing which inspired him to do the artwork he does now.

Unlike Banksy, he is identity is far from hidden but he puts effort and meaning into every piece he creates, WRDSMTH spoke in an interview saying “ I aspire to inspire others and the universe will take note.”

Though Banksy promotes his artwork in a variety of ways as well as his own website, WRDSMTH makes sure each social media platform of his is up to date with his artworks or interviews to promote himself constantly. The main platforms that he uses are Instagram with 140k Followers, Facebook 10K, and Twitter only have around 2,000 followers.

After looking more into WRDSMTH I have seen his most useful platform is Instagram not only does it show his artwork but also a link to his other page where you can buy his art pieces, then his link to his actual own website. Instagram is the main platform for him to present his artwork and what he’s about.

Instagram is statistically the best marketing channel when it comes to social media being at almost 90% while Facebook 45% and Twitter only 33%.

Jen Chen, Instagram Statistics, ND,

While Instagram isn’t the most used website on social media when it comes to marketing and promoting brands, labels, and companies many heads towards that direction. Instagrams activity has increased quite an amount from 2013 being at only 90 Million active users to 2018 with 1,000 more.

I’d suggest WRDSMTH knows the statistics of every platform and uses the ones with better marketing e.g. Youtube could be one, videos of him showing how he does his artwork or the reasoning behind them. Some people don’t enjoy reading so providing them with another option could come in handy.

His work often involve political themes, critiquing war, capitalism, hypocrisy and greed. Michael Di Leva’s Bio

ART THROUGH MICHAEL DI LEVA’S EYES

Written by Te Awhina Dixon

Growing up in a creative family Michael Di Leva automatically became interested in the industry. His brothers are all creative, but he is the only one that has decided to try pursuing it.

“I can see a whole lot of art in civil engineering being bridges or highway layouts. Art to me can be seeing a large structural object being modelled down to a 144th scale eg. Airport or living complex”.

Art comes in different forms so to him Art is Architectural (relating to the art or practice of designing and constructing buildings). He loves the structure and design of buildings, airports or Planes and the way each were created. A great example is Madurodam, an entire miniature city that you can walk through, located in Holland.

Madurodam is a miniature park and tourist attraction in the ...

As a past Art student he has finally realised what he wanted to do especially involving creativity, Maybe not necessarily being at where he wants to be at this point of time but slowly finding a way to achieve it. I asked him why he wanted to try pursuing art going to an art course.

“I chose this Art course because I wanted to feel more connected to art and make it feel as I had a meaning towards it. I love working in and around art as it gives me joy when I create something with my own hands. Be it painting, building or object modeling. Also, so I could use many materials and objects to create art as a meaning to myself”.

I have come to notice Di Leva has very mechanical but creative mindset he was telling me he would think step by step on how each item would be placed and what it would look like in his head creating a 3D image so he knew exactly what to do in each step.

Even though he is yet peruse it he certainly capable to do so.

What Inspires me.

Anyone who creates artwork as self expression will always be one I inspire.

Memories of certain places, how it made me feel then and how it makes me feel now.

Mental illness isn’t beautiful but you can create it in a way that makes what you felt easier to process to not only you but others who have seen it and that is a big inspiration I aim to achieve.

Turning Pain into paintings to give people your point of view at that very moment giving them an understanding of why you are who you are at this point in time but letting them know theirs always a reason why and a purpose for it.

You are the only one who can control with how you deal with your experiences. Pain is my inspiration to want to provide paintings for people trying to find their own purpose.

Why I chose to get a Diploma in Art.

I have been told my whole life you won’t ever get a career in art as much as I heard it apart of me still thought it would be worth a try. If you like something do it because at the end of the day other people’s opinions does not determine where you can go in life.

Why I chose it?

Why would you want to spend your whole existence doing something you don’t want to do, what we can achieve is up to us only and so that is why I chose it, I want to share and create pieces not only because I enjoy doing so but because I know without Art this world would be dull. The world is so full of negativity and to me creating artwork people can not only relate to but understand gives them hope and a feeling of purpose. Everyone needs reassurance about their reason for living and I hope one day my artwork can do that for them.

Going to a course helps you figure out how you want to achieve your outcome for your artwork, how you portray it. I’m still trying to figure out how I want to which is exactly why I chose to do this, it’s a stepping stone to something bigger if you wanted that.

You can do whatever you want to do, don’t let adults or any person tell you who you can or cannot be; that is up to no one but you.
